Family description

Small trees without exudate.
Leaves alternate, spiral, usually crowded at twig tips, simple, usually margin toothed. Stipules usually absent.
Flowers bisexual, stamens numerous, colourful and long, protruding far from actual flower, ovary inferior, 2-6-locular, with long slender style.
Fruit large drupes, with persistent calyx and style on top. Sometimes fruits winged.

Distribution African and Asian tropics, but most common in Asia. Genera 5, with ca. 50 species.
